Wading through the storm with a friend

Pat Brady stared at the rapidly rising water in his kitchen as the rainfall from Hurricane Harvey started to flood his home. The water was as high as the electrical sockets on his walls, and he felt trapped. Pat paused before accepting help from nearby firefighters – he didn’t know if he would be able to bring his dog Beau with him. While all pets are beloved family members, Pat and Beau share a special bond – Beau was a gift from Pat’s friends when his wife passed away. We see difficult choices made and heartbreak happen every day. And every day, we’re there in the aftermath to help, thanks to compassionate supporters like you and your giving to ARC for times like these.

With the help of the Houston Fire Department, Pat was able to flee with his beloved Beau. First by boat and then by bus, they arrived safely at a Red Cross shelter that partnered with a local animal shelter so that pets would not need to be left behind. The first thing Pat and Beau received was comfort. Pat settled in with a warm blanket, cot and comfort kit, while Beau received food, a bowl anda crate. Believe it or not, disaster season is always upon us ready to strike at any moment. We need to be ready for friends like Pat and Beau, along with the families around the country who will be impacted. Because of donors we’re able to reach out with a caring hand and get families back on their feet after times of crisis. Every gift you make has the potential to change someone’s life during their darkest days. Every small, medium, or large donation is appreciated and American Red Cross thanks you & they truly appreciate your support.

An average of 91 cents of every dollar the American Red Cross spends is invested in humanitarian services and programs.
