A 50th Birthday Surprise

What do you get someone who’s lost everything? For Deborah Bear from Reed, Kentucky, she had not expected to spend her 50th birthday in a Red Cross shelter. Deborah and her husband, Shon, found refuge with the Red Cross when floodwaters took their home.

When a volunteer discovered it was her 50th birthday, they pulled together a party that Deborah, Shon, and all the volunteers are sure to remember for the rest of their lives. Thanks to you, in May we Opened 27 shelters, helping to provide more than 4,900 overnight stays, distributed nearly 1,600 relief items, and provided more than 32,800 meals and snacks in 14 U.S. states and territories
